Meet the Gayhurst Medical Centre Staff

Dr. Jan Whyte
MB ChB, DCH (London), FRNZCGP, FAMChPM
My life has taken me from a childhood in Southland, to Otago Medical School, hospitals in Queensland and England and general practice, initially back in Southland. I have a qualification in child health and palliative care as well as general practice. Since moving to Christchurch in 1984 I have provided care through this practice which has grown from modest beginnings in Worcester St. With a husband and three grown sons, my leisure interests now include gardening, travel and a wide variety of outdoor activities.
Dr. Catherine Cooper
MB ChB, FRNZCGP
I am from Canterbury and attended medical school in Otago. Following medical school I spent a number of years in hospital medicine and a year in the General Practice training programme before working in Australia. After some years there in general practice I came back to New Zealand and joined this practice in 1993. My spare time is spent enjoying stitch-craft, shows, travel and family.
Dr. Arthur Collins

I moved to New Zealand in 1992 after completing my medical studies in Dundee, Scotland. I am originally from Guernsey in the Channel Islands. I have been a family doctor for the last decade, mostly here in Christchurch but with spells in rural locations in the South Island. My interests are in all aspects of family practice. I have an interest in sports medicine, and perform minor surgery when required. I live in Lyttelton with my wife Sue (also a GP) and our two boys Tom and Josh, who are at primary school. Outside of work and family I enjoy the wonderful outdoor environment that New Zealand offers, either on foot or bicycle. I am also a keen but not very accomplished guitarist. I joined the practice in early 2008.
Dr. Julie Gilmore

I started at Gayhurst in March and am really enjoying working in such a great practice. I am originally from the UK, graduating from Edinburgh University in Scotland in 1999. I have been practicing as a fully vocationally trained GP since 2003. My husband Paul and I spent over 2 years living and working in Christchurch from 2005 to 2007 and loved it so much that we have decided to settle here. In my spare time I enjoy skiing, running, cycling and generally being outdoors. We are really enjoying making the most of everything Christchurch and the South Island has to offer. I am enrolling patients now and look forward to meeting you and your families soon.

Jo Butfield
Registered Nurse
I qualified in the UK in 1993 and have worked in a wide variety of specialties including, Theatre , Intensive Care, Elder Care and Oncology. For the last 7 years I have been a practice nurse. I enjoy this role thoroughly and am available for appointments or advice about a broad range of health related issues. Since moving from Cornwall to NZ with my husband in 2009, I have spent time exploring the beautiful South Island. My interests include reading, singing, yoga and music.
Donna Dawson
Registered Nurse
I was born in Christchurch and did my nursing training here. I then have practiced both here and Australia but came back recently and have been working in the practice for this last year. I have three children and enjoy going to the gym in my spare time.
Liz Frame
Registered Nurse
I trained at the Christchurch School of nursing and was based at Princess Margaret Hospital. Since then I have had over 30 years experience in General Practice, mostly in and around Christchurch. The last two years and nine months however were spent working in a busy London practice, which was extremely interesting and challenging. It allowed my husband and me to explore Europe a little as well. I have been working here since the beginning of July 07. When time allows I like to swim and dance.
Sharyn Cameron
Practice Administrator
I was delighted to join the practice team at Gayhurst Medical Centre in Jan 2006. I have had several years in the hospitality industry and wanted a change while still working with people. I enjoy pottery, sailing and spending time with my husband and two children. I hope to get to know each of you over time and be able to continue the quality service that the Gayhurst Medical Centre is known for.
Shar Parker
Receptionist
I am very happy to have joined the Gayhurst Medical Team as receptionist in April 09. I live in Dallington with my husband, Garry and two girls, Teresa, 20 and Sarah, 18. It has been lovely to meet the patients attending the medical centre and I look forward to getting to know you.
Victoria Silcock
Receptionist
I have joined the team at Gayhurst Team as a receptionist. I live in Amberly, North Canterbury and have recently graduated from university. I enjoy snuggling up on the couch with my cat Spook and a good book or DVD. I also enjoy walking in my spare time, weather permitting. I am enjoying getting to know you all.

I moved to Christchurch from the UK in 2007. I work for First Feet Podiatry and I am available at Gayhurst Medical Centre every Mon morning and Wed afternoon to help with all your foot problems.
Amanda Wilde
Counsellor
I grew up in Oamaru and after living in Auckland for a few years moved to Christchurch where I have been ever since, the best move I have ever made. Having begun my nursing training in my early 30's I have gradually found my way into counseling/psychotherapy niche which I thoroughly enjoy and established a private practice at Gayhurst Medical Centre in the middle of 2006. I love dancing, aquacise, walking, music and best of all curling up on the couch in the sun or under covers on a rainy day with a good book.
