Swine Flu
As you will be aware the main concern with the Swine Flu Pandemic is over. However, we still have a lot of flu in the community. Thank you for your co-operation during this time, the use of masks and hand washing was and still is very important in controlling the spread of the virus. We have returned the toys and magazines to the waiting area but we suggest using the hand antiseptic provided in the waiting area.
KEY MESSAGES FROM THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH ARE
Covering coughs and sneezes
Washing your hands and drying them thoroughly.
Avoid contact with sick people
Reducing time spent in crowded settings
Measles Outbreak.
There is an outbreak of measles in New Zealand with 100 cases in Canterbury during the first half of 2009. Measles is a serious viral illness and the only method of prevention is vaccination. The Ministry Of Health has requested that all children over the age of six months should be offered a measles, mumps and rubella vaccination now, followed by a second dose a month later. All children who have not had a second dose should be offered this as soon as possible. Unvaccinated adults born after 1969 are also able to have this vaccination free of charge. The Doctors and Nurses at Gayhurst Medical Centre strongly urge you to vaccinate as soon as possible.
Immunisation Clinics
We now run immunisation clinics on Monday and Thursday mornings between the hours of 8.30 and 12.30. We prefer to vaccinate children in the morning but understand it is not always possible for parents to fit into our clinic times and we will do our best to arrange an alternative time.
Repeat prescriptions
Patients on regular medication must be seen by the doctor for repeat medications, unless your doctor has specifically advised you otherwise. Your Doctor is legally required to review your medications every three months for all prescriptions except contraception.
Enrolment
Primary health care relates to the professional healthcare received in the community, usually from your GP or Practice Nurse. The government subsidises your visits to the doctor by way of a payment to the doctor, but to obtain this subsidy you must be enrolled with a doctor. It may take some time for your enrolment with us to be funded by the government and you will be expected to pay the full consultation fee for your first visit.
