Newsletter February 2010
3 February, 2010

Welcome to the Gayhurst Medical Centre Website for 2010. We hope you have all had an enjoyable and safe holiday time

Staff changes.

Lorraine has retired after many years and she will be missed by both patients and staff. She is looking forward to having more time to spend with family and friends and enjoying new interests.

Alison has decided to return to Hospital Nursing and is back working in the children’s ward at Christchurch Hospital. We will miss her and wish her all the best for the future.

Amy has also left us, moving to the North Island to pursue new ventures.

Jo Butfield has joined the nursing team at the surgery. Jo has been a practice Nurse in the UK for many years and has a lot of experience in General Practice especially with chronic disease management.

Zoe  Gower  is the new receptionist, working with Char and Victoria. You will have the opportunity to meet them all as they share shifts at the front desk as well as taking phone calls.

Appointments.

Our appointments for both the Doctors and the Nurses are for up to fifteen minutes duration. Please request a double appointment if you think you will take a longer time or if two people need a consultation. The doctors endeavour to keep to time but in General practice, emergencies occur and the Doctors may be needed to attend to these. Reception will inform you if this happens, but if you have been waiting for longer than 20 minutes please discuss with reception.

Influenza Vaccinations.

As at the time of this newsletter we do not have a definite date for the start of the 2010 vaccination clinics. However we do know that this year the vaccine will cover the HINI influenza strain as well. The vaccine will be free to everyone over the age of 65 and to those aged 6 months to 64 years with a chronic disease. The ministry is expecting the HINI  influenza to be a significant risk this winter and we encourage everyone to consider having a flu vaccination.
